About Us
Liberation Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) is a gathering movement and progressive ministry located in St. Louis, MO. Liberation seeks to break the chains of brokenness by linking our lives in Christ-centered community.
Our Mission:
We exist to love God and God’s people, to lead people in relationship with Jesus Christ, to be Christ’s disciples by learning about his life and ministry, and to participate in God’s mission to liberate people from sin and sinful structures.
Our Rally Cry:
Who are we: Liberators!
What is our part in God’s Mission: To liberate lives and liberate communities with every breath in our being!
Liberation Christian Church is part of the Disciples of Christ. The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) was founded in the early 1800s in the United States. Seeking to move beyond denominational disagreements, the founders envisioned a united church of Jesus Christ modeled on the New Testament.
Disciples Today:
Today our nearly 3,800 congregations still share these characteristics:
• Each congregation is self-governing
• Worship services may be formal or informal, and include lay women and men in leadership.
• Open discussion of issues is encouraged. Diversity of opinion is common
• We are growing in racial and ethnic diversity.

What We Believe
Open Communion: The Lord’s Supper, or Communion, is celebrated in weekly worship. It is open to all who believe in Jesus Christ.
Freedom of Belief: Disciples are called together around one essential tenet of faith: belief in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Persons are free to follow their consciences guided by the Bible, the Holy Spirit, study and prayer, and are expected to extend that freedom to others.
Baptism by Immersion: In baptism, the old self-centered life is set aside, and a new life of trust in God begins. Although Disciples practice baptism by immersion, other baptismal traditions are honored.
Belief in The Oneness of The Church: All Christians are called to be one in Christ and to seek opportunities for common witness and service.
The Ministry of All Believers: Both ministers and lay persons lead in worship, service and spiritual growth.

Our Core Values
Spirituality: We affirm that Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior and we strive to be his disciples by studying his life, ministry
and growing deeper in our walk with him. We do this by regularly participating in worship, community service, activism, prayer, the reading of scriptures, and expression in the arts. We are a Christ-centered community. (Luke 9:23, Luke 10:27)
Sacredness: We believe in the sacredness of relationship. Therefore, we commit to building authentic and healthy relationships. In a world full of surface, shallow, and purely sexual relationships, we strive to be a community where people can be themselves, share their weaknesses and strengths, and build true intimacy. We want each liberator to be known, and to deeply know the other.
(Mark 10:14)
Solidarity: We stand in solidarity with the poor, marginalized, and oppressed in our community. We are called to organize for justice and social action when institutions resist God’s reign. (Deut. 27:19, Micah 6:8)
Self-Esteem: We affirm that all people are made in the image of God. God commanded us to love ourselves so that we may love our neighbor. We strive to be a diverse community celebrating differences in race, age, gender, class, and sexual orientation.
(Genesis 1:27, Psalms 139:14, Colossians 1:16)
Safety: We affirm that our church will be a place of safety emotionally, physically, spiritually, and mentally. Our environment will be non-judgmental and open to all who treat each other with respect. (Matthew 7:1)
Scholarship: We believe that Christ commanded us to love God with all our heart, soul and mind. Therefore we commit to be thinking people of faith. We critically study the Bible and the traditions of Christian faith with illumination of the Holy Spirit. (Mark 12:29, Mark 7:13, Romans 12:2)
